The Scariest Halloween Ever

By Caroline Carp

The scariest of seasons is just around the corner – we’re of course talking about Halloween, a time for lots of food (or should we say candy), good friends, top horror movies and a free pass to scare the living hell out of your family.

As you probably know by now it can be a real hassle to come up with the ultimate Halloween costume. However, it’s not at all about buying the most expensive costume. If you put some effort into the little details you won’t have to spend thousands on transforming yourself into Gary Oldman’s portrayal of Count Dracula.

For example, consider adding some special effect contact lenses (sometimes called crazy lenses, theatrical lenses, or decorative lenses) to your outfit, if you want to look your scariest. Think about it – it’s the eyes the people look at first and it’s the eyes that keep you looking “normal”. Now imagine someone looking into your eyes and realizing that they’re blood red. Apply some white make up to your face, insert some fake fangs, and people will think you’re Dracula reincarnated. Taking advantage of crazy contacts is nothing new – it’s been done for a long time in some of the scariest movies to come from Hollywood.

Crazy Lenses for Everyone

A great thing about crazy lenses is that they can be worn by everyone – it doesn’t matter if you have an eye disorder or not. These types of decorative contacts come in prescription form as well as with zero power (Plano). You can purchase special effect contact lenses that’ll last a month, or up 18 months if you order standard theatrical lenses. It is important to mention that even if these lenses don’t look anything like regular contacts, they still require the same type of maintenance. This means that you have to clean your hands before inserting them and keep them in a container filled with a lens cleansing solution while they’re not being used.

What are Your Alternatives?

So, what do these decorative contact lenses look like? To tell you the truth, the alternatives are endless. However, to make it a bit easier for you, here’s a list of favorites.

  • Blood Red – This look is perfect for almost any Halloween costume. It’ll add that little extra for anything from Dracula to a zombie.
  • Devil – This one is pretty self-explanatory. If you want to look the most evil, then pick this one.
  • Wolf – If you’re going for the wild animal look this contact lens is a must. Jack Nicholson used this type of lens in the movie with the same name – Wolf!
  • Hypnotica – Dressing up as a Mad Scientist? If yes, you’ll find your match in these lenses.
  • Fire – As with the Blood Red lenses, Fire will be a good choice for most Halloween costumes with a little flair.
  • Black Sclera – Perfect for you that’s going dressed as a demon or vampire. As this lens has a pupil hole your entire eye will be black.
